Porsche’s commitment to sustainability takes center stage in its recently released 2023 Sustainability Report, reflecting the company’s ambitious goals towards achieving net carbon neutrality by 2030. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche, sets the tone for the report by emphasizing the company’s forward-looking approach while maintaining its core identity.
The report highlights Porsche’s achievements in several key areas, including electrification, material sustainability, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). These successes underscore Porsche’s dedication to upholding its reputation as a pioneering luxury automaker while integrating sustainable practices into its operations.
At the heart of Porsche’s sustainability framework are six strategic pillars:
1. Decarbonisation
2. Supply Chain Responsibility
3. Partner to Society
4. Circular Economy
5. Diversity
6. Governance and Transparency
Electrification stands out as a cornerstone of Porsche’s sustainability efforts, with the company aiming to have over 80% of its new vehicles equipped with purely battery-electric drives by 2030. In 2023, Porsche delivered 29,403 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and 41,023 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), marking significant progress towards its electrification goals.
Material sustainability is another focal point for Porsche, with a commitment to sourcing high-quality materials from sustainable origins. By 2030, Porsche aims to ensure that 90% of its production materials come from suppliers with a Sustainability Rating, aligning with stringent internal quality standards and contributing to Scope 3 emission reduction targets.
In line with its commitment to diversity, Porsche is actively working to increase the representation of women in management positions. The company aims to reach 20% representation at the first management level below the Executive Board and 18% at the second management level by 2025. Progress in 2023 indicates that Porsche is on track to meet these targets, with a reported increase to 20% representation at the first management level and 17.3% at the second.
These achievements underscore Porsche’s holistic approach to sustainability and support its overarching goal of achieving net carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2030. By prioritizing electrification, sustainable material sourcing, and DEI initiatives, Porsche continues to lead the way towards a more sustainable future in the automotive industry.
