SpiceJet announced on Thursday its successful finalization of lease agreements for 10 planes, marking a strategic move for the no-frills airline to bolster its capacity. Additionally, the airline disclosed the acquisition of three airframes as part of recent settlement agreements.
An insider revealed that SpiceJet is currently engaged in discussions with lessors concerning eight aircraft, whose leases are set to expire this month. The airline aims to secure at least six of these planes for continued operation, as stated by the official.
Furthermore, two previously grounded aircraft have been reinstated into service, enhancing the operational efficiency of the carrier.
Presently, SpiceJet boasts a fleet of over 30 planes. In a statement released on Thursday, the airline confirmed the finalization of lease agreements for 10 additional planes.
The release highlighted that the recent settlement agreements have not only facilitated the acquisition of three airframes but have also resulted in substantial savings amounting to Rs 685 crore for the airline. It’s worth noting that “airframe” refers to an aircraft without engines.
In response to these developments, SpiceJet’s shares surged by 6 per cent to reach Rs 53.39 apiece during morning trading on the BSE.
