The Wine Industry Mentor Program is set to make a comeback in 2024, offering a unique opportunity for wine professionals to establish enduring connections within the grape and wine sector.
The program’s impact on previous participants has been profound, with individuals advancing in their careers, broadening their professional networks, gaining confidence, assuming leadership roles, and exploring various professional development avenues. Many have also exhibited a heightened commitment to their regions, roles, and future opportunities for success.
Reflecting on her participation in the 2023 program, Alexandra Quinton shared her positive experience, stating, “I have gained greater confidence in myself and my abilities. I felt empowered to ask questions I haven’t asked anyone else, and got useful, meaningful, helpful advice and feedback. As a result of this program, I have a real sense of drive and purpose and am excited for what the future holds.”
Since its inception in 2019, over 216 mentees have received personalized mentoring through the program, with many sustaining their relationships beyond its official duration. The 2024 mentors lineup comprises over 50 esteemed wine industry experts, including Matt Woo (Penfolds), Samantha Connew (Stargazer Wines), Gill Gordon-Smith (Wine Educator), and Angus Hughson (Winepilot).
Annabel Mugford, a returning mentor, emphasized the leadership potential and diversity promotion embedded in the program. She noted, “The program builds the leadership potential within the industry. Plus it encourages diversity by giving all individuals, regardless of role and background, the confidence that their thoughts and ideas matter.”
Scheduled to run from June to November, the program will span six months, featuring monthly one-on-one sessions between mentors and mentees. Additionally, participants will gain access to a plethora of resources and industry experts through the program’s online mentoring platform.
Jointly supported and managed by the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology, the University of Adelaide, Wine Australia, Wine Communicators of Australia, and the Wine Industry Suppliers Association, the Wine Industry Mentor Program stands as a collaborative effort to foster growth and connectivity within the wine industry.
