Singapore, February 26, 2024– The Singapore Jewellers Association (SJA) is thrilled to announce the resurgence of the Singapore Jewellery Design Award (SJDA), a prestigious event celebrating the pinnacle of jewellery artistry emanating from the heart of Asia. Organized by SJA and supported by the Jewellery Design & Management International School (JDMIS) and IEG Asia, the organizer of the Singapore International Jewelry Expo, the SJDA underscores innovation in jewellery design spanning generations, markets, and cultures.
Marking its return this year, SJDA continues a legacy that extends over a decade, a testament to an enduring passion for excellence in jewellery design. The competition also integrates Singapore’s International Jewellery Stars Award, whose last edition drew submissions from 93 designers across 16 countries. Winners were selected based on creativity, technical excellence, and their interpretation of the Fantasy theme.
In 2024, SJDA invites entries across three categories: ‘Jewellery Without Limits,’ ‘Fresh Facets,’ and ‘Exquisite AI.’ These categories ensure fair competition among artisans with varying experience levels and backgrounds. The ‘Jewellery Without Limits’ Open Category provides flexibility for designers of any age and background, including active jewellery professionals. ‘Fresh Facets,’ the emerging talent category, nurtures design students and newcomers to the industry, while ‘Exquisite AI’ celebrates the future of design using generative AI tools.
Winners are in line to receive cash prizes and training vouchers from JDMIS. The Grand Prize for the ‘Jewellery Without Limits’ category includes an exhibition booth at the renowned Vicenzaoro exhibition, along with a round-trip economy ticket and accommodation in Vicenza, Italy, generously sponsored by IEG Asia.
The 2024 competition theme, ‘Sustainable Luxury,’ presents a unique challenge for designers to merge the seemingly opposing ideas of luxury and sustainability into one cohesive vision. It calls for designs that are visually striking and inspired by ethical and environmentally conscious considerations. Designers are encouraged to explore new materials, techniques, and forms that contribute to creating a luxurious yet sustainable piece of jewellery.
The distinguished panel of judges for SJDA 2024 includes Alan Revere, a master goldsmith and educator; Federica Frosini, Editor in Chief of VO+ jewellery magazine; and Katerina Perez, a celebrated Paris-based jewellery insider.
