Porsche’s latest Taycan model has achieved a remarkable milestone in electric vehicle performance, showcasing a real-world range of up to 587 kilometers. This accomplishment was revealed during initial test drives of pre-series Taycans conducted between Los Angeles and San Diego, underscoring the electric sports car’s heightened long-distance capabilities. The practical assessment took place along Interstate Highways 405 and 5, shedding light on the Taycan’s advancements in efficiency and charging technology.
The updated Taycan launch brings forth substantial improvements, encompassing an extended range, more streamlined charging processes, and increased robustness in its charging capabilities. In a comprehensive range test involving a round trip from Los Angeles to San Diego, the Taycan demonstrated superior efficiency. Kevin Giek, Vice President for the Taycan model line, emphasized the vehicle’s efficiency and Porsche’s dedication to the ‘fast travel’ strategy, aiming for brief charging times and extended ranges.
Conducted under real-world conditions with twelve international media representatives, the range test featured four vehicles driving at the interstate speed limit of 75 mph (approximately 120 km/h). All vehicles were equipped with the Performance Battery Plus, showcasing not only the Taycan’s impressive range but also its remarkable charging capabilities. At an Electrify America Charger in Torrance/Los Angeles, the Taycan achieved over 300 kW of charging power, enabling it to charge from 10 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes.
Since its inception, Porsche has manufactured nearly 150,000 Taycans, with the U.S., the U.K., Germany, and China standing as its largest markets. The extensively revised Taycan is poised for imminent presentation, promising to further solidify Porsche’s standing in the electric vehicle market.
