German automaker Porsche is gearing up to unveil the refreshed 2025 Taycan electric vehicle (EV), with an imminent presentation in the coming days. The automaker, known for its high-performance vehicles, has provided glimpses of the upcoming Taycan and has now offered a preview of the substantial changes beneath its exterior.
A notable critique of the current Taycan centers around its limited driving range, particularly the base version with a modest 208-mile range and the Taycan GTS, featuring the lengthiest range at 246 miles. Porsche aims to address this concern with the upcoming model by significantly enhancing its driving range.
Porsche recently conducted prototype tests on the new Taycan, spanning the route between Los Angeles and San Diego. The results showcased an impressive range of up to 587 kilometers (WLTP cycle), equivalent to approximately 365 miles. While the official EPA rating is expected to be lower, this still represents a substantial improvement over the existing Taycan. During the range test, the Taycan maintained a maximum speed of 75 mph on the highway.
Highlighting the charging capabilities of the 2025 Taycan, Porsche revealed that the vehicle demonstrated over 300 kW charging power at the Electrify America Charger in Torrance. Notably, the Taycan accomplished a charging session from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in “well under 20 minutes.”
Vice President for the Taycan model line, Kevin Giek, expressed satisfaction with the results, stating, “A great result. The range test in Southern California impressively demonstrated how efficient the reworked Taycan is. We are continuing to focus on our ‘fast travel’ strategy for electric mobility: short charging stops paired with high real-world ranges thanks to efficient drives.” As anticipation builds, Porsche enthusiasts eagerly await the official unveiling of the 2025 Taycan EV and its promising advancements in range and charging efficiency.
