Heathrow Airport has joined forces with the British Fashion Council (BFC) to introduce an exclusive tote bag range ahead of London Fashion Week (16-20 February). This limited-edition collection, launched in celebration of the BFC Newgen Initiative’s 30th anniversary, showcases designs from some of the most notable BFC Newgen alumni.
Renowned designers such as Ahluwalia, Giles Deacon, Roksanda, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Mary Katrantzou, and Halpern have contributed their unique prints to this special collection. The bags are available for purchase at Heathrow throughout 2024, with experiential pop-ups and retail shops, including Harrods, Case, WHSmith, and World Duty Free, featuring the exclusive collection while supplies last.
Priced from £9.99 to £70, the BFC Newgen 30 collection offers a variety of options, and a percentage of the sales will be donated to the BFC Foundation. The foundation plays a pivotal role in supporting the next generation of designers within the UK’s fashion industry.
Crafted with sustainable cotton and produced by Bag of Ethics through an ethical supply chain, each bag in the range embodies a commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
To boost awareness of the collection, Heathrow has initiated a competition, granting travelers the opportunity to win behind-the-scenes access to a London Fashion Week show in September and an overnight stay at the Treehouse London Hotel.
Fraser Brown, Heathrow Retail Director, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “Heathrow is proud to have collaborated with the British Fashion Council on this project, using our platform to showcase the work of emerging fashion designers to travelers from all over the world.”
For three decades, BFC Newgen has supported over 300 British creatives, elevating designers like Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane onto the global stage. The initiative provides young designers with a platform to present their collections at London Fashion Week, along with mentorship and financial support for new businesses.
In addition to the partnership with Heathrow, the BFC is commemorating 30 years of BFC Newgen with an exhibition at the London Design Museum titled “REBEL: 30 Years of London Fashion,” sponsored by Alexander McQueen, running until 11 February 2024.
