As the six-year-old BMW X3 approaches the end of its lifecycle, anticipation builds for the arrival of an entirely new generation. Recent sightings of the prototype undergoing testing in various environments, most recently in Germany, offer a glimpse of the upcoming model featuring production lights for the first time.
Notable enhancements include a substantial air intake in the front bumper, flanked by two smaller intakes on the sides, an updated and more upright grille, a subtly arched roofline, flush-mounted door handles, and a prominent rear spoiler. Inside the cabin, the next-gen X3 adheres to a conventional design, diverging from the recently previewed Neue Klasse concept. BMW has provided a sneak peek into the interior, showcasing a curved display amalgamating a 14.9-inch infotainment system and 12.3-inch digital dials.
Despite its adherence to traditional design elements, the next-gen X3 will mark a significant shift towards sustainability. It will continue to offer internal combustion engines, reportedly making it the final model in the lineup to rely on fossil fuels. The powertrain options are expected to include four- and six-cylinder engines with 2.0 and 3.0-litre displacements, supplemented by plug-in hybrid variants. Notably, an all-electric iX3 will join the lineup as the eco-friendly option, while the performance-focused X3 M will sit atop the range.
While the exact date for BMW’s grand unveiling of the all-new X3 remains unknown, speculation suggests it could occur within the next few months. The vehicle is anticipated to hit the market, either as a 2024 or 2025 model, signaling BMW’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in its future lineup.
