De Bortoli Wines pays homage to the rich history and unique terroir of the Heathcote region with the launch of its newest wine, “Ancient Soils.”
Crafted as a tribute to the depth and beauty of Heathcote, Ancient Soils is made from Iberian grape varieties, Tempranillo and Touriga. Sourced from the renowned Heathcote Ridge and Rathjen vineyards, these grapes are known for thriving in the region’s heat. The distinctive red Cambrian soil, a result of the gradual decomposition of Cambrian volcanic basalt over five centuries, imparts unique characteristics to the grapes grown in the area.
The wine, produced from the 2022 season, benefited from a slightly cooler growing season, resulting in grapes with “perfume and concentration.” Ancient Soils, with its deep red hue and purple vibrance, offers a sensory experience described as having “supple, plum-infused textures and integrated tannins harmonized with notes of dark fruits, spice, and violets.”
De Bortoli Wines invites wine enthusiasts to embark on an adventure with Ancient Soils, becoming an integral part of an age-old narrative. The wine is positioned as a connection to the land’s rich heritage, the art of winemaking, and the quintessence of the Heathcote region. Each sip is an opportunity to delve into the history and complexity of the region, celebrating the distinctive flavors derived from the ancient soils.
Ancient Soils encapsulates the essence of the Heathcote region, offering a sensory journey that invites wine connoisseurs to experience the terroir and craftsmanship that define this exceptional Australian winemaking region.
