Cosmetics giant L’Oreal has signed an agreement to fully acquire Swiss water technology startup Gjosa. The two companies had previously partnered to launch the L’Oreal Professional Water Saver showerhead in 2021.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. L’Oreal says the acquisition supports its commitment to comprehensive water management and sustainability innovation.
In a statement, L’Oreal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus explained that bringing Gjosa in-house will strengthen the company’s ability to integrate water-saving technology across its beauty portfolio.
The aim is to seamlessly add the solutions to new formulas and tech-driven products. This allows L’Oreal to rapidly scale sustainable solutions that use fewer resources while maintaining high performance.
Water conservation is a priority as climate change makes water scarcer globally. The deal marks L’Oreal’s push to build sustainability directly into offerings and operations.
Hieronimus commented that partnering closely with Gjosa will empower efforts to introduce these innovations to the wider industry. This likely refers to integrating the tech across L’Oreal’s brands and collaborating with supply chain partners.
The acquisition demonstrates L’Oreal’s commitment to advancing sustainability through in-house R&D and startup investments. It positions the firm as an industry leader developing responsible, eco-friendly innovations with mass market potential.
