On December 21, EHang Holdings Ltd., headquartered in Guangzhou, China, achieved standard airworthiness certification for its EH216-S passenger-carrying unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platform from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The EH216-S, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, is produced at EHang’s Yunfu production base in China. This certification is in accordance with the type certificate issued by the CAAC in October 2023 and follows standard production procedures supervised by the CAAC. The certification affirms that the aircraft adheres to the approved type design, ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements for commercial operations.
Deliveries of the EH216-S have commenced, with the initial aircraft handed over to Eton, an intelligent aviation technology subsidiary of Guangzhou Development District Communications Investment Group Co. Ltd. This marks another milestone in EHang’s collaboration with its customers, further solidifying its position in the emerging urban air mobility (UAM) sector.
Chengjiu Zhou, General Manager of Guangzhou Development District Communications Investment Group Co. Ltd., expressed optimism about the impending commercial operations of aerial tourism in Guangzhou and the promising prospects for their ongoing partnership with EHang.
Huazhi Hu, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of EHang, stated, “In the near future, we anticipate an increasing number of aircraft rolling off from our production line to gradually fulfill our backlog orders, thereby serving more customers and passengers, and enhancing UAM.” EHang’s EH216-S, with its recent certification, signifies a step forward in the integration of passenger-carrying UAVs into commercial operations, contributing to the advancement of urban air mobility solutions.
