Seaman Schepps is the epitome of classic American jewelry design, and the brand is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year with rare materials and unusual designs.
Anthony Hopenhajm, owner of the company, said of the brand’s heritage: “The essence of our jewelry has always been, and will always be, the beautiful rare gemstones and materials used by Seaman Schepps, and the fearless and unabashed creativity whose style was ahead of its time. Schepps’ bold and innovative combination of gemstones with exotic woods and natural shells established his preeminent position in wearable jewelry. More than 6,000 original drawings in our company archives, spanning 120 years of production, provide inspiration and guidance for the work we create today in our New York City studio.
Today’s new jewelry honors and subverts this history, with coat of arms rings, pearl jewelry and heavy chains all beautifully reimagined. This year, the brand also launched Schepps Home and Schepps Men, which include bowls, clocks and planters, giving us even more to look forward to in the future.
Ultimately, the new collection creates a classic foil to the jewelry itself. “Our jewelry is revered for its unexpected combinations of wood and/or shell with gemstones and gold, transformed into iconic and unique pieces – this has been and continues to be the hallmark of Seaman Schepps design,” added Hopenhajm.
“The challenge of transforming an idea into wearable jewelry is not only the sourcing of rare and unusual materials, but also the result of careful and precise craftsmanship. Skilled artisans carve and set the gemstones into settings, such as in a pair of earrings, where the clasps fit together perfectly and the earrings sit proudly on the ear, delighting the wearer and admirers near and far.
