The US has grounded its entire fleet of Osprey aircraft in Japan following last week’s deadly crash.
Washington’s move comes after the Japanese government “repeatedly” asked the U.S. to stop operating the aircraft due to safety concerns in the country, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported Thursday.
At least eight people aboard the CV-22 transport plane died after it crashed during a routine exercise off the coast of Yakushima Island in southwestern Japan on Nov. 29.
About 50,000 American troops are stationed in Japan under a bilateral defense pact.
