BMW’s second-generation iX3 electric SUV prototype was spotted testing on snowy and icy roads in Europe.
The upcoming iX3 is the first SUV in BMW’s “Neue Klasse” (new class), which means the styling is expected to be significantly updated compared to the current model.
Although the SUV is wrapped in camouflage, the proportions of the new iX3 look similar to the iX, albeit smaller.
While the current iX3 is fairly upright in proportions, the new SUV makes use of a sloping roofline to help improve aerodynamics, with a strong shoulder line over the rear wheels.
The front fascia is visible underneath the camouflage, which is reminiscent of what we saw on the BMW Neue Klasse concept car, as well as a pair of pinstriped headlights.
At the rear, almost no details are revealed except for the square taillights and missing exhaust pipes.
Inside, the second-generation iX3 is expected to use BMW’s iDrive 10 system, which also features a head-up display that projects across the full width of the windshield.
First seen in the Vision Neue Klasse concept car, the central touchscreen is the main touchpoint, complete with a voice-activated “intelligent personal assistant”.
BMW hasn’t revealed any details about the upcoming iX3’s powertrain, but the brand has previously talked about how the Neue Klasse vehicle will use an 800-volt electric architecture.
