New York Yacht Club American Magic is proud to present the groundbreaking women’s team that will make history by representing the United States in the Puig Women’s America’s Cup in Barcelona, Spain, October 10-16.
“It is an honor to be selected for the U.S. Magic Women’s Team and compete in the Puig Women’s America’s Cup,” said Erika Reineke, 2017 Rolex U.S. Sailing Female Yachtsman of the Year. “My teammates bring valuable experience from different classes and we are excited to learn from each other, work together and maximize our potential. Training with the U.S. Magic Cup team and the youth team is a great opportunity for us. It’s a team, everyone’s goal is to achieve the same end result in Barcelona.”
Under the guidance of Captain and President of Sailing Operations Terry Hutchinson and Coach Charlie Ogletree, NYYC American Magic has crafted a versatile roster of outstanding female sailors, including Many people excel in multiple positions.
“After a rigorous selection process, we have assembled a strong, talented and experienced sailing team. The development process, led by New York Yacht Club members Peter McClennen, Suzy Leech and Amy Ironmonger, has produced impressive results,” Terry Hutchinson said.
The Puig Women’s America’s Cup is an important step forward for women in sailing, providing a unique platform to showcase their outstanding skills on high-performance sailing boats. The New York City American Magic Women’s Team is honored to be a part of this pivotal moment in the history of the sport with these incredible women who will redefine the boundaries of competitive sailing.
Suzy Leech, co-lead of the New York Yacht Club Women’s and Junior America’s Cup Task Force and a veteran of the 1995 America³ America’s Cup team, expressed her pride and enthusiasm for this outstanding group of women, highlighting the team’s Unparalleled dedication and passion for the America’s Cup. Sailing. She stressed, “Our goal is not just to compete, but to win the Puig Women’s America’s Cup, which shows that American women can reach the top of the sport.”
The NYYC USA Magic women’s team is committed to rigorous training, constant growth and mastery of the AC40, solidifying their determination to win the 2024 Puig Women’s America’s Cup in Barcelona.
