Signet Jewelers veteran David Bouffard will step down from his role at the retailer and as chairman of the Responsible Jewelery Council (RJC) next year.
Bouffard announced in a note to RJC members on Thursday that his last day at Signet will be April 30, 2024. He will resign from the RJC before this date.
Bouffard has been with the US jewelry giant since 1981 and is currently a Signet Industry Affairs Fellow. Prior to that, he served as the company’s vice president of corporate affairs, a position he held for 11 years, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Rooney added that Signet has welcomed Matt Swibel as its vice president of sustainability and social impact. She did not specify how Swieber’s role overlaps with the position being vacated by Bouffard.
In a note to members, he added that the RJC, which Bouffard has led since 2018, will hold a special election for its chairman, with the nomination process to begin in January 2024. He said a new chairman could take over as early as March 2024 to “allow some time for continuity” before Bouffard leaves Signet next month.
“We are looking for a new Chair to lead our diverse team and growing RJC membership into the future and have a clear vision for the changing modern world of our industry, from mines to retail, fine jewelery and watches ,” the executive wrote.
