The government of Puerto Rico has signed a major contract with a Texas-based company to build a state-of-the-art marina for mega yachts in the U.S. territory’s capital.
Currently, San Juan has only two docks for yachts and mega-yachts, resulting in limitations due to limited space and a lack of essential services, Governor Pedro Pierluisi pointed out.
The new marina, a joint venture with Safe Harbor Marinas, LLC, will cover more than 180,000 square feet (67,000 square meters) and will be strategically located within the existing yachting docks. This expansive facility is designed to accommodate approximately six yachts at a time and will provide essential amenities such as shore power, water connections, sewage pumping and high-speed internet.
Governor Pierluisi announced that Safe Harbor Marinas is prepared to invest between $12 and $15 million in this ambitious marina project, marking a significant leap forward for Puerto Rico’s maritime infrastructure.
