Fresh spy shots have emerged of the upcoming Suzuki Swift being tested on Indian roads. The Swift has long been a popular model in India, and this new iteration is expected to hit showrooms in 2024. While the overall design remains familiar, there are several notable changes and additions to look forward to.
On the exterior, the new Swift features a redesigned front grille and headlights, giving it a sportier and more Mini Cooper-like appearance. The profile remains similar to the current model, but with a more pronounced shoulder line. Other changes include new alloy wheels and a shift from C-pillar placement to a more conventional rear door handle position. At the rear, updated LED taillights and a revised bumper complete the refreshed design.
Inside the cabin, the spy shots weren’t able to capture any details, but the concept version on display at the Japan Mobility Show provides some insight. Expect a new dashboard with a floating touchscreen infotainment system and updated AC controls. The driver will also enjoy a new flat-bottomed 3-spoke steering wheel and analog dials with a multi-info display.
In terms of features, the new Swift is rumored to come with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a wireless phone charger. In particular, the addition of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features is expected, including blind spot monitoring thanks to a radar cutout. Safety enhancements may also include six standard airbags.
Changes are also expected under the hood. The new Swift could be powered by a new 1.2-liter Z-series engine, replacing the current four-cylinder mill. Both manual and automatic transmission options are likely to be available.
With all these updates and upgrades, it is expected that the new-gen Swift will carry a premium over the current model, which starts at Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Competing against the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Punch and Renault Triber, the new Swift aims to cement its position as a top choice in the Indian market.
