In a year marked by significant launches and achievements, Mercedes-Benz India closed 2023 with the launch of the updated GLE and C43 AMG. As the luxury automaker celebrated its milestone, the company acknowledged the lingering concern over delivery wait times and committed to speeding up the process to meet customer expectations.
Offering a comprehensive range of petrol, diesel, electric and AMG models, Mercedes-Benz India had committed to launch ten new vehicles in 2023. With the launch of the GLE and C43 AMG, the company fulfilled its promise. However, despite robust demand for their offerings, the delivery timelines have led to customer dissatisfaction.
Santosh Iyer, the Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz India, shed light on the main reason behind the long wait during the recent press conference. He revealed that the shortage of the 48V Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) from their headquarters was a contributing factor. Iyer thanked customers for their patience and assured them that the company was actively working to address the issue and speed up delivery times.
The shortage of the 48V ISG has also affected the introduction of mild-hybrid technology in Mercedes’ latest vehicles. This innovative system, located in the transmission and connected to the driveshaft, replaces both the starter and alternator. The 48V ISG generates electricity during idling or deceleration, resulting in reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency. In addition, this technology enhances vehicle performance without range anxiety or the need for frequent recharging.
