A Foxconn-led consortium, MIH Consortium, has set an ambitious target to sell 100,000 electric minicars per year in India, Thailand, and Japan from 2025 onwards. The Taiwanese iPhone assembler made this announcement during the Japan Mobility Show held recently in Tokyo.
The electric vehicle (EV) initiative, known as Project X, was launched by Foxconn in 2020, aiming to revolutionize the transportation industry with innovative and sustainable mobility solutions. While EVs have gained considerable traction worldwide, MIH Consortium plans to focus specifically on the minicar segment, which has been growing steadily in popularity.
These compact and efficient three-seater minicars demonstrate MIH Consortium’s commitment to making electric mobility accessible and affordable for urban commuters. With their smaller size, they are ideal for navigating congested city streets, reducing traffic congestion, and carbon emissions. Furthermore, the consortium aims to leverage their expertise in manufacturing and supply chain management to provide quality vehicles at competitive prices.
By targeting key markets such as India, Thailand, and Japan, MIH Consortium aims to tap into the increasing demand for electric minicars in these regions. The consortium recognizes the potential of these markets, thanks to the growing awareness of environmental issues and a greater emphasis on sustainable transportation solutions. Moreover, the widespread adoption of EVs is further encouraged by supportive government policies and initiatives, including incentives and subsidies.
Through this endeavor, MIH Consortium envisions contributing to a greener future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable development in the transportation sector. The widespread adoption of electric minicars will not only help combat climate change but also reshape urban mobility, making it cleaner, quieter, and more efficient.
