An upcoming update for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been spotted in Germany, providing a glimpse into the mid-life revision of the retro-inspired electric hatchback. While no drastic changes are apparent, it is expected to debut sometime in 2024.
At this stage, there are no discernible alterations to the headlight or tail-light signatures. However, it is possible that these features will be included in later road-going prototypes.
Compared to Hyundai’s tradition of dramatic mid-life redesigns, it seems that the Ioniq 5 will not undergo a major styling makeover. Nevertheless, with the vehicle being covered at the front, back, and sides, it is likely that there will be revised front and rear bumpers, as well as new sills and plastic elements for the lower sections of the doors. Additionally, new alloy wheel designs may be introduced.
Rumors suggest that the updated Ioniq 5 will include an N Line variant, borrowing some design elements from the Ioniq 5 N but not its powerful motor configuration.
Details about changes to the Ioniq 5’s drivetrain options or battery packs are currently unknown. However, it is possible that updates may be made to the infotainment software and trim.
Released in 2021, the Ioniq 5 drew inspiration from the 2019 Hyundai 45 concept and paid homage to the company’s first in-house designed model, the 1975 Pony.
Underneath its retro-inspired exterior, the Ioniq 5 was built on Hyundai’s e-GMP all-electric architecture. This platform also serves as the foundation for the closely related Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60. It has since been utilized in the development of the Kia EV5 and EV9 crossovers, as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 streamliner sedan.
Despite supply constraints, Hyundai Australia plans to improve availability of the Ioniq 5 in 2024 and aims to sell around 4,000 vehicles with Ioniq badges next year, with the majority being the Ioniq 5. Some dealers are also expected to have demonstrator cars for the first time since the vehicle’s launch.
While there have been few changes revealed for the mid-life update of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, it remains a popular choice within the Australian market, competing with other electric vehicle offerings.
