Amazon recently announced that it now has 10,000 Rivian electric delivery vehicles in its US fleet. The milestone was revealed during a business presentation earlier this week. The partnership between Amazon and Rivian aims to have at least 100,000 electric delivery vans on the road by 2030.
This achievement is in line with Amazon’s commitment to sustainability. In 2019, the company co-founded the Climate Pledge, which sets a target of achieving net zero carbon by 2040. As part of this mission, Volvo announced in 2022 that it would provide 20 electric trucks to Amazon.
Rivian, an electric vehicle maker, has been steadily increasing its production capacity. Reuters reports that the company raised its production forecast for the 2023 full year to 52,000 vehicles, which contributes to Amazon’s growing fleet of electric delivery vehicles.
To support its expansion plans, Rivian recently revealed its intention to raise $1.5 billion through a private placement of convertible bonds due in 2030. This funding will aid in the development and production of more electric vehicles.
The use of electric delivery vehicles helps reduce emissions and supports the transition to a greener future. Amazon’s partnership with Rivian not only increases the number of electric vehicles on the road but also demonstrates the commitment of major companies to sustainable practices.
