Tata Motors recently launched facelift models of its popular SUVs, the Tata Harrier and Tata Safari. These models, launched on October 17, share similar powertrain options, design features, and interior details. In addition to the launch, Tata Motors has also provided insights into the future of these SUVs.
During the launch event, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, stated that the company is working on a petrol engine option for the Harrier. Chandra mentioned that the company had showcased a 1.5-litre TGDi engine at the Auto Expo and intends to bring it to the market. While he mentioned that the launch of the petrol variant might be slightly far away, about a year or more, he confirmed that Tata Motors plans to introduce the petrol engine option.
The Auto Expo 2023 witnessed Tata Motors showcasing the Harrier SUV with both a petrol engine option and an electric vehicle (EV) counterpart. Reports suggest that the Harrier EV might hit the roads before the petrol variant. However, specific details regarding the launch of the petrol variant are not available at the moment. Industry insiders speculate that the petrol variant may be launched within the next 12 to 18 months.
As for the Harrier EV, there is no official information regarding its features. However, it is expected to be equipped with a 60 kWh battery and offer a driving range of 500-600 km. The launch timeline for the Harrier EV has not been disclosed yet.
With these plans to introduce petrol and EV versions of the Harrier SUV, Tata Motors aims to cater to a wider range of consumers and provide more choices in terms of powertrain options.
