An early-build Tesla Cybertruck has reportedly sold for $400,000 at a US auction. The electric pick-up, although not the first example to be built, was offered at the Petersen Automotive Museum’s Gala night auction. A video shared on the social media platform X showed bidders competing for the Cybertruck, which eventually reached a hammer price of $400,000. This is significantly higher than the original suggested prices of $39,900 to $69,900, and even exceeds the price of the most expensive Tesla models currently on sale in the US.
Although the auctioned Cybertruck could have reached a higher price if it were the first-ever model, it still fetched an impressive sum. For comparison, the first-ever GMC Hummer EV electric pick-up sold for $2.5 million at an auction in 2021. The first road-going version of the Tesla Cybertruck was produced in July 2022, about 18 months behind schedule. It is expected that the first examples of the Cybertruck will be available in US showrooms by the end of 2023, with mass production ramping up in 2024.
The pricing of the Tesla Cybertruck has not been confirmed yet, but it is anticipated to be announced closer to the vehicle’s rollout in the US. With its avant-garde design and high demand, the Cybertruck has garnered significant attention and is expected to be a game-changer in the electric pick-up truck market. This early sale at auction further demonstrates the excitement and willingness of buyers to pay a premium for the highly anticipated Tesla Cybertruck.
