Kia will be accepting reservations for its upcoming 2024 Kia EV9 SUV starting on October 16. This announcement is significant because it marks the first time Kia has implemented a formal reservation process for one of its electric vehicles. Previously, potential customers were asked to join an email list and were contacted by the automaker when it was time to contact a dealer. However, for the EV9, a fully refundable $750 deposit is required to secure a reservation. This deposit amount is more than twice the amount needed to reserve a Lucid Air Pure and more than seven times the amount required for a GMC Hummer EV.
The Kia EV9 is an electric SUV priced under $60,000 and offers a third row of seating that can accommodate American adults. The reservation process will open at 1 p.m. Eastern time on October 16, and customers will have the option to choose from different trim levels including the Light, Light Long Range RWD, Wind AWD, Land AWD, or GT-Line AWD.
Currently, pricing information is only available for the entry-level model, the Light Long Range, which starts at $56,265. This model is equipped with a 76.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a single 215-horsepower motor on the rear axle. It has an estimated range of 223 miles and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds. The Light trim comes with features such as dual 12.3-inch screens for the infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, wireless device charging, Kia’s Digital Key smartphone access system, and various safety equipment. The vehicle is built on Kia’s E-GMP architecture, which supports 800-volt DC fast charging and can charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes.
The Light Long Range model has a larger 99.8-kWh battery and a 201-horsepower motor, offering an extended range of 300 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 8.8 seconds. The top-of-the-line GT-Line AWD trim produces 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, with an estimated range of 243 miles and a 0-60 mph time of five seconds.
Customers who reserve the EV9 before November 27 will be eligible to receive a gift bundle once their purchase or lease is confirmed. The bundle includes a Webasto Go Dual Voltage Portable EV Charger, a three-year Kia Maintenance Plan, and one year of available Digital Features & Services. Additionally, all buyers and lessees, regardless of the reservation date, will receive 1,000 kWh of charging with Electrify America.
