Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recently announced that electric vehicle (EV) services will soon be introduced at major tourist destinations across the state. Speaking at an event commemorating World Tourism Day, Adityanath emphasized the importance of integrating green practices into the tourism sector. The theme for this year’s World Tourism Day is ‘Tourism and Green Investment’.
Adityanath stated that efforts are underway to deploy e-buses and e-rickshaws, and to install solar lighting at selected tourist spots. The aim is to enhance the overall environment and create a serene and uplifting atmosphere for visitors. Adityanath expressed the need to plan the development of tourist destinations in a way that eliminates the use of generators for electricity, advocating instead for the installation of solar lighting.
The specific tourist spots where the EV services, including e-rickshaws and electric buses, and solar lighting will be deployed have not yet been determined. However, this initiative is a welcome move as India continues to strive towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
The event also saw Adityanath inaugurate an exhibition on the various tourist places in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, an ‘A to Z’ booklet highlighting these destinations was released, kits were distributed to members of the Youth Tourism Club, and leading tourism entrepreneurs of the state were honored.
Adityanath emphasized that religious and entertainment tourism are two primary categories in India and Uttar Pradesh. Both forms of tourism are essential to the ecosystem, with religious tourism rooted in faith and entertainment tourism offering recreation and information. The Chief Minister noted that over 30 crore tourists visited different holy places in the past year alone.
The introduction of EV services at tourist spots in Uttar Pradesh demonstrates the commitment of the state to promote sustainable tourism. By adopting electric vehicles and solar lighting, the government aims to create a more environmentally friendly and peaceful experience for visitors.
