Copenhagen, [Date] — Unveiling a thought-provoking narrative centered around individuality, REMAIN took the stage at Copenhagen Fashion Week to showcase its Spring/Summer 2024 collection, delving into the concept of being truly original. Guiding wearers towards introspection, the collection was unveiled within a reflective chamber adorned with mirrors, offering no sanctuary for concealment.
“The notion of originality truly crystallized during our previous show. Observing the diverse cast, I found myself captivated by the authenticity exuded by each individual. The mirror, as a symbol, encapsulates the epitome of personal originality,” shared Denise Christensen in an exclusive conversation with Hypebae, as she provided insight into the collection’s genesis backstage.
Synthesizing impeccable tailoring with contemporary outlines, SS24 endeavors to pay homage to the “legacy of masculine tailoring,” while interjecting a commanding, feminine perspective. Every design choice is rife with purpose, a result of Christensen’s reflection on the transformative impact of the pandemic. “Emerging from the depths of the pandemic, there emerged an innate desire to embrace elevated attire and project a heightened sense of strength,” she expounded.
Celebrating the unique contours of the female silhouette, the assortment favors hourglass forms, cinched waists, and strategic boning. An artistic equilibrium is achieved through the convergence of broad shoulders, bold cuts, and enveloping sleeves alongside dainty complements, manifested as diaphanous blouses, embellished layers, and form-fitting bodysuits. “Our emphasis on contrast bears paramount significance. Sculptural masterpieces coexist with ethereal translucence, creating a harmonious interplay,” Christensen elaborated.
Addressing the surge in popularity of sheer garments, the designer conveyed a straightforward maxim: “Every individual should attire themselves as they see fit.”
In tandem with the collection’s debut, the showcase marked a significant juncture for the Birger Christensen Collective, heralding the appointment of Asbjørn as REMAIN’s new creative helmsman. Collaboratively curated by Christensen and Asbjørn, SS24 is a prelude to the forthcoming Fall/Winter 2024 collection, which will spotlight the inaugural independent collection helmed by the newly appointed creative director.
