BMW revealed that it was working with both the Ombudsman and police to provide the necessary information.
According to media reports, a complaint has been filed against German carmaker BMW in Denmark over alleged misleading marketing practices.
A statement released by the Danish Consumer Ombudsman (DCO) reported that as per a 2021 & 2022 campaign, BMW called itself “the world’s most sustainable car producer”, giving a misleading impression that its cars were less harmful to the environment than any of its other competitors. As per the country’s Marketing Practices Act, no marketing campaign is allowed to give information that is incorrect or could be possibly misleading. Also, companies must be able to provide documents proving their statements are true.
Christina Toftegaard Nielson, DCO, stated, “It is not only harmful to competing companies but also to the green transition, as we lose trust in the credibility of such messages.”
The German carmaker has responded to the claims with a separate statement. BMW revealed that it was working with both the Ombudsman and police to provide the necessary information.
